Professor Tomiki classified and developed the most effective use of 50 of these techniques from traditional jujutsu and aikido. He called these Koryu-goshin-no-kata ("Self-Defense form of traditional aikido"). Koryu-goshin-no-kata demonstrates defense against an armed or unarmed opponent. Koryu-goshin-no-kata is an essential form of Tomiki Aikido. These techniques are all related to randori-no-kata (the basic techniques of free practice). This is a highly sophisticated form of aikido.
